Going Green? So Is Mitsubishi

Everyone in Pittsburgh is thinking “green” this week with St. Patrick’s Day, but we’re thinking green for another reason—fuel economy!

The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) named the 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage one of the greenest vehicles on the market today. In fact, the Mirage was the only gasoline-powered vehicle that wasn’t a hybrid, EV, PHEV or natural-gas powered vehicle to earn this distinction.

To make the cut, each year, which is part of ACEEE, analyzes the impact or lack thereof that new production vehicles have on the environment. Each vehicle is given a Green Score that is determined based on the vehicle’s lifecycle greenhouse gas, as well as the Environmental Protection Agency’s criteria for pollutant emissions.

The 311RS Spec Blew 2015 Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X

This is the last production year for the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, and although we are left with a rally sized hole in our heart, we couldn’t be happier to see that the 311RS will return with a new 2015 Spec Blew model. Minneapolis-based 311RS, LLC has announced that the new Evo is their most focused model to date. The company states that the Evo will be lighter, faster, and more dynamic than the 311RS.

Last week, the Spec Blew was revealed to a select few at the Twin Cities Auto Show. 311RS, LLC took the new 2015 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution and gave it even more upgrades over the original 311RS. The tuner says Spec Blew will be “a proper sendoff” to Mitsubishi’s Motorsport icon after 23 years of the Evolution’s production run.

The Lancer Evoltion special edition model will be coming from Mitsubishi later this year, but it most likely won’t have anything on the Spec Blew. The “Special Action Model” will be built specifically for the U.S. and will come with “extra horsepower and other performance improvements”

MPG Is Top When Buying a New Car

Even though we’ve seen a drop in gas prices around Pittsburgh and Western PA over the past couple of months, new car buyers still want fuel-efficient cars, according to J.D. Power and Associates’ 2015 Avoider Study. This study, which monitors the reasons consumers buy or do not buy vehicles, claims MPG is the top factor in new vehicle purchases for the fourth year in a row.

Consumers are “going to own these vehicles for many, many years. They want [mileage] to remain low during their ownership period,” research director Jon Osborn told Automotive News.

To reach these findings, the 12th annual Avoider Study surveyed almost 30,000 new car owners. Among buyers of compact, small, and midsize cars, 14 percent said that gas mileage was the most influential reason for choosing the vehicle they ended up purchasing. Similarly, 16 percent of shoppers rejected a vehicle in favor of a more fuel-efficient model.

And with an outstanding line of fuel-efficient cars, Jim Shorkey Mitsubishi is the place in Western PA to buy a new car. From the 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage with an impressive, best-in-class 43 MPG to the 2015 Mitsubishi Lancer with a cool 34 MPG, these cars will save you tons at the pump. If you’re looking for a larger vehicle, don’t forget about the Mitsubishi Outlander with an outstanding 31 MPG and the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport with a sweet 30 MPG.

Mitsubishi Outranks Top Luxury Brands

Recently, we received a letter from Mitsubishi Motors Executive Vice President, Don Swearingen. Don wrote to us to inform us that the Mitsubishi brand is making historic news.

Mitsubishi scored seven points above industry average in the 2015 U.S Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS). This is the second time that Mitsubishi has ranked above industry average for VDS, and this milestone was achieved by a 26-point, 10-ranking improvement over last year.

Now in its 26th year, the VDS examines problems experienced during the past 12 months by original owners of 2012 -year vehicles. Overall dependability is determined by the number of problems experienced per 100 vehicles, with a lower score reflecting higher quality. The study was enhanced in 2015 to better measure the quality of today’s vehicles, particularly related to new technologies and features now being offered. Thirty brands were assessed in this year’s VDS, which was based upon responses from more than 34,000 original owners of 2012 model-year vehicles after three years of ownership. The industry average was 147 problems per 100 vehicles, or approximately 1.5 problems per vehicle.

Jim Shorkey Mitshishi North Huntingdon

Mitsubishi scored an outstanding 140, performing better than their key competitors like Subaru (157) and Volkswagen (165). Not only did Mitsubishi score better than their leading competitors, they also beat out some luxury brands including Infinite (144), BMW (146) and Land Rover (258) as well.

Mitsubishi Outlander and Outlander Sport: Twinning or Not?

While the Mitsubishi Outlander and Mitsubishi Outlander Sport may seem like twins, they’re more like cousins. They share the same bloodline, but they have their own characteristics and traits that make them unique. And while we’re fans of both models here at Jim Shorkey Mitsubishi, we narrowed down the differences to help you find which one better suits your lifestyle.

Performance Preference

Both the 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander and Outlander Sport are equipped with efficient, powerful standard engines. However, each powertrain offers different levels of performance output.

Mitsubishi Outlander: Equipped with a standard 2.4L I-4 engine that produces 166 horsepower and gets an estimated 31 MPG on the highway. When properly equipped, it can tow up to 1,500 lbs.

Mitsubishi Outlander Sport: Uses a standard 2.0L I-4 engine that puts out 148 horsepower while getting an estimated 32 MPG on the highway. It is not rated for towing.

Interior Space

As families grow, they typically need more space. Think about your family now and five years from now. How does it look?

Mitsubishi Outlander: Is ideal for larger families who need plenty of passenger space. The Outlander can comfortably seat up to 7 passengers, offering a total of 128.2 cubic feet of interior space and 10.3 cubic feet of cargo volume.

Mitsubishi Outlander Sport: Is great for single drivers and small families. It seats up to 5 occupants with 97.5 cubic feet of passenger volume and can accommodate up to 21.7 cubic feet of cargo behind the second row.

Both the Mitsubishi Outlander and Outlander Sport are fully equipped with a variety of standard features that provide both comfort and convenience. Each of these models comes with Bluetooth hands-free phone connectivity, a USB port for audio playback, and steering wheel-mounted controls. Optional features, like a navigation system and front fog lights, are available for both models as well.
