Your not Seeing things, That Mirage is a Sedan!

Mirage G4, 2017 Mirage

Mitsubishi scored a huge win with its latest generation of the Mirage.  With its smaller engine, spacious interior, and clean styling, the Mirage teaches you that being small can be a good thing. The Mirage is pound for pound a one of the best cars on the market.  It has a reputation for being a money saver with one of the best miles per gallon for a vehicle that is not a hybrid.  The Mitsubishi Mirage’s sales success led to the additional expansion of a sedan based model.  We here at Jim Shorkey are happy to announce we have the 2017 Mitsubishi G4 Sedan. The G4 Sedan is unique from the Hatchback model but keeps the traits that makes the Mirage loved.

The 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage G4 is a four-door sedan version of the pre-existing Mirage hatchback.  All 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage models will get a revamp no matter hatchback or sedan.  The sedan obviously gains a trunk, the G4 sports all of the upgrades made to the Mirage sedan for 2017, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.  Switching to a four-door sedan body changes the styling, and at the other end there’s a designed a sedan-specific front fascia.  The G4 sedan is already sold in a bunch of other markets as either the Mirage G4 or the Attrage, and Mitsubishi decided this was the year to bring the sedan to North America for some time.

Mirage Sedan, Mitsubishi sedan, Mitsubishi Mirage, Mirage,

The Mitsubishi G4 Mirage offers the same 1.2-liter, three-cylinder engine as the Mirage hatchback. While driving you should expect it to produce the same 78 horsepower and 74 pound-feet torque, and for the same five-speed manual and CVT automatic transmission options to be on tap. What the Mirage lacks in power it makes up for in fuel economy: the last hatchback model to be EPA certified got 40 mpg combined, making it the most efficient non-hybrid car sold in the U.S. The Sedan will get 37 mpg

The interior should be pretty similar to the Mirage hatchback, which gets a new steering wheel and seat materials as part of its 2017 refresh. Like the hatchback, the Mirage G4 gets Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The 300-watt Rockford Fosgate audio system from the five-door may be offered on the sedan as well.

Most importantly, we’re poised to repeat our success in 2016.” “Mitsubishi’s strategy for the U.S. is all about crossover SUVs and the launch of the 2017 Mirage G4. Mitsubishi Outranks Top Luxury Brands

Recently, we received a letter from Mitsubishi Motors Executive Vice President, Don Swearingen. Don wrote to us to inform us that the Mitsubishi brand is making historic news.

Mitsubishi scored seven points above industry average in the 2015 U.S Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS). This is the second time that Mitsubishi has ranked above industry average for VDS, and this milestone was achieved by a 26-point, 10-ranking improvement over last year.

Now in its 26th year, the VDS examines problems experienced during the past 12 months by original owners of 2012 -year vehicles. Overall dependability is determined by the number of problems experienced per 100 vehicles, with a lower score reflecting higher quality. The study was enhanced in 2015 to better measure the quality of today’s vehicles, particularly related to new technologies and features now being offered. Thirty brands were assessed in this year’s VDS, which was based upon responses from more than 34,000 original owners of 2012 model-year vehicles after three years of ownership. The industry average was 147 problems per 100 vehicles, or approximately 1.5 problems per vehicle.

Jim Shorkey Mitshishi North Huntingdon

Mitsubishi scored an outstanding 140, performing better than their key competitors like Subaru (157) and Volkswagen (165). Not only did Mitsubishi score better than their leading competitors, they also beat out some luxury brands including Infinite (144), BMW (146) and Land Rover (258) as well.

The Mitsubishi Mirage Sedan Coming Soon!

Mitsubishi Motors has been cutting-edge with their latest designs, that’s why it is no surprise that the Mitsubishi Mirage G4 sedan will be coming to the U.S market withing the next year. Mitsubishi showed a G4 sedan concept in 2013. And since the Mirage hatchback has had great success in the U.S. market, we are expecting the sedan to have the same success.

Mitsubishi will also refresh the rest of its lineup over the next year and a half, including the Lancer compact sedan and the Outlander Sport and Outlander crossovers. These updates are rumored to show a new styling direction for the brand, so you can expect some sort of corporate grille to permeate across these models. The highly anticipated plug-in hybrid version of the Mitsubishi Outlander will also debut within the next few months after already being on sale in other markets since 2014.

All-new Mitsubishi production model will make its debut at the New York Auto Show later this month.

What Are Current Drivers Saying About the Mitsubishi Mirage

Auto writers and critics can discuss this car and that car until they’re blue in the face, but how much are their words really worth? Yea, they may have driven a car around a test course or down the street, but how much do they actually know about owning it? Odds are, not much.

For the most honest and accurate vehicle reviews, past and current drivers are your best bet. And there’s one car out there with a particularly loyal following—the Mitsubishi Mirage. Recently acknowledged for having the highest Model Loyalty in the Non-Luxury Traditional Sub-Compact Car Segment for the 2014 model year by IHS Automotive, the love for this car is apparent.

“We are delighted to receive this Model Loyalty recognition by IHS Automotive,” said Don Swearingen, Executive Vice President of MMNA. “Mitsubishi Motors has experienced growing customer loyalty across our entire model lineup through the years, and this award demonstrates that we are successfully retaining our current customers while simultaneously introducing new consumers to the brand.”

IHS Automotive recognizes automotive manufacturers for superior owner loyalty performance, which is determined when a household that owns a new vehicle returns to market and purchases or leases another new vehicle of the same make or model.

The 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage achieves an astounding EPA fuel mileage rating of up to 37 mpg city/44 mpg highway and also has an NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) 4-Star Overall Vehicle Score.

Mitsubishi’s Fast Key Entry System: What It Is and How It Works

Mitsubishi Motors designs cars with the drivers of North Huntingdon and Pittsburgh in mind. Case and point: their Fast Key Entry System. Sounds great, but the heck is it? This ultra-convenient system lets you unlock your car, start the engine, and drive away without having to fumble in your pocket or purse for your keys. And when paired with available push-to-start technology, the convenience is unimaginably doubled. But how does it work? Inquiring minds want to know!

Mitsubishi keyless entry, Mitsubishi Fast Key Entry System, Mitsubishi Pittsburgh

To start, “Fast” as in “Fast Key” actually stands for Free-Hand-Advanced Security Transmitter, which pretty much covers the basics. When a transmitter (your key) comes within a certain distance of a receiver (built into your vehicle), then the locks disengage. Further, when paired with push-to-start technology, a person can simply push the start button without inserting a key into the ignition. But don’t fret if your Mitsubishi isn’t equipped with push-to-start technology. The Mitsubishi Fast Key Entry System will still allow you to press the ignition knob on the steering column to release the lock, and then twist it to start the engine. Much easier than trying to find your key in your purse or pocket; all you have to do is drive!

So the next time you’re admiring the blue skies on your way into work, and then running through the parking lot to your car in a rainstorm after work, just think: You should really get a Mitsubishi.

Coming Soon to Dealership Near You: The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV

Ask anyone close to the Mitsubishi Motors brand, and they’ll tell you the ever-changing car giant is hard at work developing new, innovative products for the future. Even more, Mitsubishi has been quick to say their future lies with hybrid and electric vehicles. Case in point, in 2009, the company dipped its toe in the alternative energy pool, bringing to market the all-electric i-MiEV city car. Finding the water warm, last year Mitsubishi decided it was time to tuck up its legs and cannonball into the deep-end, releasing the more mainstream Outlander Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV).

Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, Mitsubishi Outlander, Mitsubishi Outlander Pittsburgh, Mitsubishi North Huntingdon

Still no debut in the states, the Outlander PHEV has been on a slow worldwide rollout since its debut in Japan in 2013. Based on the current third-generation Outlander, Mitsubishi has already delivered over 33,000 of these hybrid crossovers around the globe. And impressively, for 2014 the Outlander PHEV is the highest selling plug-in hybrid currently on sale in the U.K.

So where’s our version? Be patient, it is coming. Expect the North American version to arrive in late 2015 or early 2016.

AutoGuide recently drove the worldwide phenomenon, and this is what they had to say:

The drivetrain for the PHEV starts with a 2.0-liter gasoline engine derived from the Lancer compact sedan. To bolster refinement, balancing shafts have been added to the engine, which makes 120 hp and 145 lb-ft in this application. Joining it between the front wheels is an electric motor with 40 hp and 100 lb-ft of torque. In the rear there’s another electric motor that also generates 40 hp, but since it’s the sole powertrain for the back tires, torque has been boosted up to 144 lb-ft.

It’s What’s Inside that Counts:

The PHEV can run in three different drive modes: EV, Series or Parallel. In EV mode, the Outlander runs on pure electric power up to speeds of 75 MPH, utilizing the front and rear motors. In Series mode, the gas engine acts as an energy producing generator for the electric motors, similar to the Chevrolet Volt. When maximum power is called for, Parallel mode kicks in that uses the gas engine and electric motors to drive the vehicle. If a charge is completely depleted, the vehicle becomes front-wheel drive only since the gasoline engine is only coupled to the front wheels. But, a charge can be recaptured through regenerative braking, coasting, etc., that can store a little power in the batteries for use at the rear wheels when needed.

Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, Mitsubishi Outlander, Mitsubishi Outlander Pittsburgh, Mitsubishi North Huntingdon

But How Does it Drive:

Power delivery is smooth and feels more robust than figures suggest. A fair amount of throttle application can be applied in pure electric mode before the gasoline engine will engage. Once it does, the transition from all electric to hybrid mode is smooth.

Getting up to speed on the highway with three adults onboard isn’t an issue and the Outlander will cruise comfortably at 74 MPH in pure electric mode without struggling. Being a European spec vehicle, the brakes were a bit grabbier than we are used to in North America, but otherwise worked fine. The paddle shifters from the V6 Outlander are still present, now serving a new purpose. Slap the left paddle and the vehicle’s regenerative braking force increases while clicking the right paddle decreases pressure. In all, regen braking force can be adjusted through six levels, ranging from zero (off) to five (whiplash).

Recharge on Demand:

One of the coolest features in the Outlander PHEV has to be the vehicle’s ability to recharge its battery pack on demand. By selecting the recharge button on the center console, the gasoline engine will not only produce power for the drive motors, but also enough to begin recharging the battery pack. Mitsubishi claims battery can be recharged to 80 percent capacity in just 40 minutes, which is impressive considering a stage three rapid charger needs 30 minutes to accomplish the same feat.

Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, Mitsubishi Outlander, Mitsubishi Outlander Pittsburgh, Mitsubishi North Huntingdon

While on the topic of charging, a standard 110V household outlet can charge the Outlander fully in 6.5 hours which is also impressive. It almost makes a stage two 220V charger’s four-hour refill time seem redundant.

For those who do a lot of highway commuting followed by drives through a city, Mitsubishi has given the Outlander PHEV a “save” feature that allows drivers to manually engage the gasoline engine when wanted to save the electric charge for later. I experimented using both the save feature and the recharge on demand and found neither adversely affected the Outlander’s performance. In fact, when cruising on the highway, I would be interested in finding out how much more gas the Outlander uses during a forty minutes charge period compared to just running the drive motors. Is the extra gas trade off worth the recaptured electric range? Only a proper test with the upcoming North American version can answer that question.

In the meantime, come out and test drive the Mitsubishi Outlander! By the time the PHEV hits the market, it will just the time for an upgrade!
