Your not Seeing things, That Mirage is a Sedan!

Mirage G4, 2017 Mirage

Mitsubishi scored a huge win with its latest generation of the Mirage.  With its smaller engine, spacious interior, and clean styling, the Mirage teaches you that being small can be a good thing. The Mirage is pound for pound a one of the best cars on the market.  It has a reputation for being a money saver with one of the best miles per gallon for a vehicle that is not a hybrid.  The Mitsubishi Mirage’s sales success led to the additional expansion of a sedan based model.  We here at Jim Shorkey are happy to announce we have the 2017 Mitsubishi G4 Sedan. The G4 Sedan is unique from the Hatchback model but keeps the traits that makes the Mirage loved.

The 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage G4 is a four-door sedan version of the pre-existing Mirage hatchback.  All 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage models will get a revamp no matter hatchback or sedan.  The sedan obviously gains a trunk, the G4 sports all of the upgrades made to the Mirage sedan for 2017, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.  Switching to a four-door sedan body changes the styling, and at the other end there’s a designed a sedan-specific front fascia.  The G4 sedan is already sold in a bunch of other markets as either the Mirage G4 or the Attrage, and Mitsubishi decided this was the year to bring the sedan to North America for some time.

Mirage Sedan, Mitsubishi sedan, Mitsubishi Mirage, Mirage,

The Mitsubishi G4 Mirage offers the same 1.2-liter, three-cylinder engine as the Mirage hatchback. While driving you should expect it to produce the same 78 horsepower and 74 pound-feet torque, and for the same five-speed manual and CVT automatic transmission options to be on tap. What the Mirage lacks in power it makes up for in fuel economy: the last hatchback model to be EPA certified got 40 mpg combined, making it the most efficient non-hybrid car sold in the U.S. The Sedan will get 37 mpg

The interior should be pretty similar to the Mirage hatchback, which gets a new steering wheel and seat materials as part of its 2017 refresh. Like the hatchback, the Mirage G4 gets Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The 300-watt Rockford Fosgate audio system from the five-door may be offered on the sedan as well.

You’re not going turbo on us? With Mitsubishi you better bet!

Earlier this month at a Mitsubishi make conference with its dealerships the automotive companies announced that the next generation of vehicles with have a little more pep in their step.  The models will have completely updated turbocharged engines.  Leading the way is 1.5 liter turbocharged engines for the 2018 midsize crossover segment.  This should make the die hard Mitsubishi fans excited.  The brand was notorious for being an early adopter of turbocharging in the 1980’s and 1990’s and boosting sales during that time.

Mitsubishi, Motors, Turbo, Jim Shorkey, Jim shorkey mitsubishi

Dealers who attended the meeting said Mitsubishi showed images of the crossover that is slotted between the next generation Outlander Sport and Outlander.  Mitsubishi also told dealers that it may only sell 100,000 vehicles per year in the U.S. ,but it is the biggest and most profitable market for Mitsubishi.  Making the US ideal for investment.  Mitsubishi higer ups are considering a turbocharged 1.1 liter engine for the next generation of the Mirage and supcompact cars.  In addition to the 1.1 liter engine a larger turbocharged engine is being developed for the next generation of the Outlander three row crossover.

“They know we’re their best chance,” said Ryan Gremore, chairman of Mitsubishi’s dealer council and general manager of O’Brien Mitsubishi in Normal, Ill. “You put your resources where you get your best results.”

Jim Shorkey, Concept, mitsubishi

Don Swearingen, executive vice president of Mitsubishi Motors North America, told dealers that he and CEO Ryujiro Kobashi are traveling to Japan this month to advocate for the turbocharged engine in the Outlander. In an interview, Swearingen said Mitsubishi needs the boosted engine to move the Outlander upscale as fuel economy standards grow more stringent.

The New Mirage and Yes You Are Seeing Things

When the Mitsubishi Mirage was first released many had stereotypes that the Mirage was small and underwhelming.  Overtime customers changed that perception to now being one of the most loyal vehicles in the US.  The new Mitsubishi just hit the ground and they have done even more improvements for the consumer.  When driving the new Mirage and noticed things changed for the better.

Mitsubishi, Jim Shorkey Mirage, Jim Shorkey Mitsubishi,

The first thing that I noticed when I got into the Mirage was the new cloth that the Mirage gained.  It is much softer and less synthetic than the previous models.  The size of the cabin kept its amazing space that only Japanese manufactures have seem to conquer.  It’s so roomie.  The front dash has changed to a cleaner heating and cooling unit and gives you a feeling of sitting back more than previous models.  The suspension, tires and breaks are the same ,but the engine is the difference to the vehicle.  The newly redesigned engine gives you 4 more horse power.  It might not sound like much but with the new speed it improves acceleration.  Older models felt sluggish on acceleration when you pushed the gas pedal, with the engine improved the car is one of the most well balanced vehicles we have seen.  It keeps its impressive MPG with it averaging about 40 miles per gallon.  It inherits Mitsubishi’s industry’s best 100,000 mile warranty.  The 2017 is an upgrade that anyone would love.

Suv bound

Mitsubishi will bring five new Suvs to market in Europe and other regions by 2021.  It is an attempt to reposition itself as a brand specializing in 4X4’s.  With this news many fans are speculating that popular hatchback vehicles like the Mirage will come to the end around this time.

Jim Shorkey, Mitsubishi, Suv,

Each Suv’s will be in their different automotive section segments.  In order of size, smallest to biggest:

A small B-SUV (i.e. Juke/Captur sized), previewed by the yellow eX concept revealed at the 2015 Tokyo motor show and making its European debut at the 2016 Geneva show. Name still to be confirmed

A mid-sized SUV slightly larger than the ASX, and previewed by 2013’s XR-PHEV II concept. We’ll see the production version, rumored to be called the Outlander Sport, in 2017.  Replacement for the current Outlander, due in 2018

The Shogun Sport, a large SUV already on sale in Australian and Asian markets as the Pajero Sport, with a 2.4-liter diesel engine and eight-speed automatic gearbox and built on the same platform as the L200 pickup truck in Thailand. Overseas it’s a five-seater, but UK versions will seat seven.

Jim Shorkey, Suv, new car

The replacement full-size Shogun, likely to be the last of the quintet to reach production. Like the current Shogun, it will be built on an entirely different platform from the rest of Mitsubishi’s models.

If Mitsubishi’s going to become an SUV brand, where does that leave the small Mirage supermini?  Mitsubishi is developing a new mirage next year available as a pure EV.  This will give it an obvious link with Mitsubishi’s other goal of having more electric cars is future areas.
